Chain sling ratings are provided on the equipment itself by the manufacturer, via an attached nameplate or tag. That tag lists the essential information you need to use the sling safely, such as the working load limit, chain size, number of legs, length, material, and any temperature rating. Having these specifications on the sling keeps the rated capacity readily accessible during setup and inspection, helping you match the sling to the load and to detect if a sling has been swapped or damaged since the tag would no longer reflect its current rating. Other sources like an invoice, an MSDS, or an OSHA reference sheet do not indicate the sling’s actual rated capacity or usage limits.
